How Jewelry Is Used For Body Modifications In Various Cultures
The concept of body modifications has long been prevalent in the human race. Put in simple words, ‘body modification’ refers to the process of making changes in the body. The changes incorporated can be temporary or permanent in nature. Primarily done for the purpose of beautification, body modification has emerged to be very different from what it had started as. The need as well as the ways for body modification has undergone transformation. This concept of making changes in the body has various implications and differs from culture to culture. While sharp objects, to tattoos to amputations are all categorized as ways to modify any part of the body, jewelries are the most common element that is used in body modifications.
Apart from being a fashion statement, body modifications in early days were done for purely religious reasons. This thing still prevails in the modern times where examples can be cited from various regions. Believers do so with this faith that their sacrifice and pain will satisfy God and they will be granted their wishes. The pain inflicted on the body while doing so becomes immaterial at that time.
Tracing back to the times of Indus Valley civilization, ornaments or jewelries has played a crucial role in body modifications. Earrings, anklets, necklaces, nose rings all excavated from the ruins have proved that they were in use in those days. The Bronze statues of a dancing girl excavated at one such site bore proof of the same fact. Bangles, rings, head bands also found at the excavation sites are evidence of the fact that even men used these for body modifications.
For many cultures across the world, body modifications have an altogether different need and importance. It is an inherent part of their culture and they are taught to imbibe this from their very childhood. Say for example in Myanmar, the women of the Padaung tribe has this tradition to wear tight neck rings around their necks. The practice starts at a tender age of 5. While at this time, the number of ring put around the neck is one, the number soon increases with time. It’s quite prevalent among them to wear as many rings as possible around their calves too. The ultimate reason for doing so is to modify the neck as in the process it gets elongated at times to alarming rates. Other body modifications followed by tribes related to this use jewelry extensively for elongating their ear lobes or ear piercings done previously.
Instances of body modifications can also be found in the American culture where the use of labrets is common among First Nations people inhabiting the North west coast. Modifications of the lips with the use of lip plates are common among Sara and Mursi people, mostly of African origin.
Body modifications can hence be categorized as common and ‘extreme’. While some are temporary and easy to do like body piercing, ear piercing, dermal anchoring which is placing a small steel bead on the skin, neck rings and tattooing – some can be really dangerous and harmful. The extreme kinds consist of tongue splitting and extra ocular implant.
With time, the sense of fashion has undergone a considerable change. For so long, footwear, jewelry and handbags co ordinate perfectly with stylish attire drew the attention in the crowd. Now is the time, when a ethnic embroidered apparel from India or a chic Indo western wear is well complimented by a perfectly done body modification.
Netherlandsfashion.com opens new doors in the world of fashion and jewelry. This site is a good place to lookout for handbags and footwear too.
Various types of Mining Equipments
The mining industry is one of the most dangerous working environments. Mining equipments are instruments that are commonly used in extraction of minerals from the earth surface. In the past, ancient times, miners used to excavate minerals and metals by using simple hand held tools. With the introduction of automation and modernization, today’s mining world enjoys the benefit of many types of mining equipments that are used specially for mining purposes. Modern day mining equipment is powered mainly by electricity and hydraulic energy.
Mining equipments are available for various types of mining methods that are performed around the world. There are various types of mining equipments available in the world. Some of them are industrial shredders, drilling equipment, blasting equipment, drill rigs, hammers, mine winders, blasting machine, Mining Locomotive, well drilling machine, industrial crushers, cutting machines, drills, loaders, blasting devices, Track Drill, Rock Drill, etc. Some examples of mining equipment that is used extensively in mining operations are: hard hats, clothing/gear, ventilation fans, rock dusters, tractors, earth movers, water jet pumps, cutting machines, drills, loaders, blasting devices, dozers, trucks, cranes, fork lifts, draglines and many other machineries. A mining light system is important mining equipment used for all mining processes. A mining light system increases the efficiency and the speed of mining operations and guarantees optimum results in mining process. A mining light might consist of a heat sink, LED or laser, magnetic switch or a focusing cone. Gold pans, sluice boxes, metal detectors, digging tools, gold vials, snuffer bottles, etc., are equipments used for gold mining. Various kinds of large mining excavators are available for mining field. The mining excavators using advanced technology help in reaching the international level of performance in mining processes.
There are mining equipments available specifically for Surface mining processes such as open-pit mining, strip or area mining, quarrying, contour mining, mountaintop removal, and placer mining. For example, some of the Open Cast Mining Equipments are Rock Drills, Drifter, Paving Breaker, DTH Hammer, Wagon Drill, Slim Drill LD-4, Pneumatic Crawler Drill, TCT Drill Steel Grinder, and Cross Bit Grinder. There are excellent mining equipments available for Sub-surface mining processes such as shaft mining, drift mining, borehole mining, slope mining, and hard rock mining. Similarly, there are special mining equipments for deep underground mining processes such as Longwall mining, Continuous mining, Blast mining, Shortwall mining and Retreat mining. For example, some of the underground Mining Equipments are Junior Simba, Mucking Machine, Slurry Pump, Exhaust Fan, Air Mover, Cement Injection Pump, Pneumatic Power Pack, Turbo Light, Spare parts for Atlas Copco Drifter BBC-120F, Simba Junior, BMS-46 Feed Motor, BSP 10 Pneumatic Rod Catcher, Atlas Copco Cavo 310 Loader, Pneumatic Raise Climber, Eimco Loader & Hopper.
The use of right mining equipment is very essential for increased productivity. For example, the use of large mining equipment in surface mining maximizes the recovery through the excavation of one or more coal seam deposits in the large area surface mines.
Many features, restrictions and criteria need to be considered while choosing the mining equipments for a mining process. The two most important factors for choosing any type of mining equipment are its strength and durability. Cost is also an important consideration while selecting mining equipments.
Mining is a very dangerous process. If a wrong piece of equipment or tool is used for a specific mining purpose, it might lead to disaster. Therefore it is important that everybody involved in the mining operation must know exactly how to use their mining tools properly. Each worker should be properly and thoroughly trained to use every part of mining equipment they will be using. Also the workers should be educated about the safety measures in using the mining equipments.

Welding Used For Various Industries
Welding is the most economical and efficient way to join metals permanently. Welding is very important for our economy because more than 50% of the gross national product comes from welding. There are different kinds of welding. Some processes cause sparks and others do not require extra heat. Welding can be done for various purposes outdoors, indoors and underwater, outer space.
Welders are used for various industry groups. Some of industries where welding is used is agriculture, construction, mining, bulldozers, cranes, material handling equipment, food-processing machinery, papermaking and printing equipment, textiles and office machinery.
Welding is also used in fabricated metals like pressure vessels, heat exchangers, tanks, sheet metal, prefabricated metal buildings and ornamental work. Welding is also used for transportation purpose like shipbuilding, aircraft, spacecraft, railroads, automobiles, trucks, buses, trailers and associated equipment.
Welding is also done for primary metal industries which include steel mills, iron and steel foundries, smelting and refining plants. Another group is the electrical and electronic equipment companies.
Welding is a fusion process, in which metal parts are heated to the melting point and fused together, usually with a filler of the same material melted along with the parent material. There are many types of welding processes like Oxy-acetylene Gas Welding, Arc Welding, Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) and Metal Inert Gas (MIG).
Arc welding is mostly used for structural steel welding. Electric current that flows through a high resistance air gap generates an intense arc with temperatures ranging from 6,000 to10, 000 degrees Fahrenheit. MIG welding are mostly preferred for industrial welding applications. The two basic inert gases used for MIG are Argon and Carbon dioxide. A mixture of 75% Argon and 25% carbon dioxide is also very common.
The shielding gas that is used in TIG is Helium. This process is considered most controllable and cleanest method of welding. TIG process can weld thin, light and dissimilar materials. Soldering and Brazing are the two most common methods of joining two metals. In Soldering and brazing, parent metal is heated and the filler metal is melted into the joint where it cools. Lead based filler metals are used in soldering and brass based filler metals are used in brazing.
Uneven heating and cooling in welding operations gives rise to significant residual stresses in the vicinity of the weld. The residual stresses and discontinuities in a weld have a significant influence on the fatigue life of a part. The fatigue part of a weld is often less than the base material. Residual stresses may be removed by annealing.
Welding is not suitable for all types of metals, as some materials, such as stainless steel can get cracks when overheated. Welding has become highly automatized over the last decade, and the use of welding robots is now common place in certain industries, such as automotive manufacturing plants
